“…Conceptual definitions are the articulated abstraction of a phenomenon, in order to facilitate the understanding of the research variables. Operational definitions, on the other hand, result from a procedure that assigns communicable meaning to a concept, i.e., an accurate description of how to evaluate the phenomenon in question (14)(15)(16) . Thus, performing a literature review to construct these definitions can help nurses identify the phenomenon of interest and evaluate the indicators in a more accurate and standardized manner.…”

“…At present, NANDA International does not provide operational definitions (ODs) to complement the meaning and value of the DCs, although authors, such as Grant and Kinney (1991), have already demonstrated the multiple benefits provided by these ODs, for instance, that identification is facilitated by the wider variety of the definitions. In this context, recent studies have confirmed this evidence and highlighted the value of developing and validating these definitions to improve clinical judgment and communication between nurses, provide greater precision and aptitude for making the correct interpretations, and offer a choice of diagnoses to help nurses to make the right decisions and consequently improve the nursing outcomes (Correia & Duran, 2017;de Souza Carneiro et al, 2017;de Souza et al, 2014).…”

“…In other studies, the validation process was not in the objectives. Validation facilitates the classifications` refinement and improvement, which favors critical thinking and strengthens decision-making by the nurse, as well as improving communication and Nursing registration in standardized language (57) .…”
