Computerized Analysis of Power Systems and Pipelines Proximity Effects

Abstract: This paper describes the computerized analysis which was conducted to ensure personnel safety and pipeline integrity during power system faults occuring near the Trans Quebec & Maritimes gas pipeline. The pipeline section considered was constructed in the vicinity of two Hydro-Quebec power substations and a number of high voltage transmission line structures. The effects of electromagnetic induction and through-earth conduction caused by currents originating from Hydro-Quebec facilities during ground fault con… Show more

“…26 A pipeline integrity analysis based on the novel computerized techniques local to a pipeline company was developed focusing on the effects of the induction and earth conduction on the structural durability of concerned pipeline system. 27 A numerical analysis of oil slurry transportation through pipeline systems was conducted through utilization of the CFD tools by the application of FLUENT 6.3 software. The obtained results related to the fluid pressure drop were compared with the experimental data and were found to match closely with the experimentally determined results.…”

“…The work in [19] focused on determining the induced voltage on different parts of pipes laid along ultra-high voltage power lines. An analysis of the effects resulting from the proximity of high-voltage electrical networks and pipelines is presented in [20]. The results of a study on the effect of the electromagnetic interference of 750 kV AC power lines on several underground pipelines are presented in [21].…”
