Computer Aided Detection and Measurement of Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Using Computed Tomography Digital Images

Abstract: Computer-aided detection (CAD) systems, which automatically detect and indicate location of potential abnormalities in scan digital images, have the capacity to increase the accuracy of the radiologists' interpretations and finding. This paper presents an efficient new CAD .for automatic and accurate detection and quantification of Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA). The system first detects and extracts the lumen and then identifies the location of the abdominal aortic from the total lumen. The extracted abdomin… Show more

“…Hence many researchers are studying, analyzing, and formulating different research methodologies in this arena as a primitive (fundamental), analytic, preventive, and rehabilitative research. The motivation towards this work is the issues & shortcomings addressed in [1][2][3], [18], [19]. In all these manuscripts, only one or two tools are used to perform only one type of analysis, such as 2D Segmentation, 3D Modeling, Dimensional analysis, Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Prototyping.…”

“…In [13], Dehmeshki et al introd automatic segmentation of the AAA the lumen, and then utilizing morphological approaches for iden [14], Subasic et al investigated the and parametric deformable models inner and outer walls of the AA techniques where active contour models are utilized in a semi-automa Another approach was proposed where a hybrid deformable model c image features with shape constra approach, a pre-segmentation of the construct a deformable model. In introduced an adaptive approach w are adapted for the 3D segmentatio medical images.…”

“…Therefore, segmentation of the lumen and outer wall from 3D black-blood MR images is an important step in generating volumetric measurements of AAA. However, a slice-wise manual delineation and segmentation of the aneurysm lumen and outer wall from high resolution MR black-blood image is extremely time-consuming, tedious, and, as it can take a skilled radiologist more than 30 minutes (Dehmeshki et al, 2009), is prone to fatigue errors. Accordingly, development of an efficient computer-aided method for AAA lumen and outer wall segmentation is important for clinical evaluation and treatment.…”
