Computational Cameras: Convergence of Optics and Processing

Abstract: Abstract-A computational camera uses a combination of optics and processing to produce images that cannot be captured with traditional cameras. In the last decade, computational imaging has emerged as a vibrant field of research. A wide variety of computational cameras has been demonstrated to encode more useful visual information in the captured images, as compared with conventional cameras. In this paper, we survey computational cameras from two perspectives. First, we present a taxonomy of computational cam… Show more

“…The world coordinate system coincides with the coordinate system of the light field camera, where Oz is the optical axis. We use the plane and tangent direction presentation [35] for the light field image, where a scene ray is described by a four-dimensional function, I I I(x, y, s,t). (x, y) denotes parameter of a sub-aperture that a scene ray passes through, while (x, y, 0) gives 3-D location of the sub-aperture on the Oxy plane, and (s,t) represents the tangent direction of the scene ray.…”

“…With the advent of computational cameras, a new approach to achieve high-speed imaging is offered. Computational cameras combine the features of the computer and the camera, it samples the light field in a completely different way to create new and useful forms of visual information [ 17 ]. In recent years, many scientists in this way make some beneficial attempts.…”
