“…In a recent review of the Compsogonales by Rintoul et al (1999), which included molecular phylogenetic Compsopogon coeruleus is a widespread species occurring in rivers and canals, and in both fresh and brackish waters over a wide range of climatic zones. Originally described from Algeria, it is now known from Europe (Germany, Poland, United Kingdom, France, Malta) North and Central America, Asia, and Australasia (Chapman & Cameron 1967;Entwisle & Price 1992). C. coeruleus seems to be expanding its distribution and has been reported as a potential nuisance alga in the Pacific Region (Chapman & Cameron 1967;Entwisle & Price 1992).…”
