Comprehensive oral X-ray diagnosis: Scanora multimodal radiography. A preliminary description.

Abstract: Scanora (Soredex, Orion Corporation, Helsinki, Finland) is a multimodal radiography system which utilizes the principles of narrow beam radiography and spiral tomography. The system includes an integrated multifunction X-ray unit, a coordinate system for object localization and a wide selection of dental and maxillofacial imaging problems. All imaging procedures are computer controlled and executed automatically. Clinical experience and preliminary results show that the multimodal imaging system has great pote… Show more

“…21 The SCAN consists of four images obtained in one examination, which display the third molar region in one orthogonal and one distoeccentric projection and two projections cranial to these, organized in the SCAN image below the first two exposures. In both directions, the tube shift angle is 4°.…”

“…For example, im plant planning and follow-up require cross-sectional images of the jaws. The Scanora device (Orion Corporation/Soredex, Finland), on the market since 1988, was the first to combine panoramic radiogra phy and multidirectional tomography (27). There are now several machines that perform both pan oramic and tomographic procedures.…”

“…Whereas in routine cases, the panoramic radiograph will usually suffice, being sufficiently accurate (Tal and Moses, 1991), for determining the width of the alveolar ridge, transverse slice images are necessary (Tammisalo et al, 1992). Andersson and Kurol (1987) inaugurated the use of computed tomography (CT) for three-dimensional visualization of the maxilla using sagittal and coronal reconstructions.…”
