Compositional Fibers Based on Coal Tar Mesophase Pitch Obtained by Electrospinning Method

Abstract: This research examines the use of coal-processing wastes of Shubarkol deposit (Kazakhstan) in obtaining useful materials such as carbon fibers. For our experiments, mesophase pitch was obtained by coal tar heat treatment at 773 K. Spinnable solution was prepared by crushing mesophase pitch into the pieces with adding poly(methylmethacrylate) as a fiber-forming material and 1,2-dichloroethane as a solvent. Elemental analysis revealed that the chemical composition of mesophase pitch (С – 91.48 %; О – 8.52 %; S –… Show more

“…Scanning electron microscopy allows studying the morphology and topography of the sample at high resolution. Previous work in this area [22,23] showed that the optimal temperature for heat treatment of CT corresponds to a temperature of 400 °C. After heat treatment, coal tar passes from a viscous state to a condensed solid state.…”

“…Various adsorbents, such as clays [ 21 , 22 , 23 ], functionalized magnetic chitosan nanoparticles [ 24 , 25 , 26 ], carbon adsorbents [ 27 , 28 , 29 , 30 ], biosorbents [ 31 , 32 , 33 ], hydrogels [ 34 , 35 , 36 , 37 , 38 ], and ion exchangers [ 39 , 40 , 41 , 42 ], can be used to recover various metal ions from aqueous solutions. The recovered metals have wide applications in catalysis, pyrotechnics, coal chemistry, and other fields [ 43 , 44 , 45 , 46 , 47 , 48 ]. However, the practical application of recently developed polymeric sorbents has been limited [ 49 , 50 , 51 ].…”

“…Of these, sorption methods have recently gained the lead, since they are more environmentally friendly and involve fewer technological cycles [ 17 ]. These adsorption techniques use diverse materials, such as biological materials, activated carbons, and activated polymers, which have recently aroused increased interest in the recovery of various metals from aqueous media [ 18 , 19 , 20 , 21 , 22 , 23 ].…”
