“…Another hypothesis considers LCPAs as compounds that stabilize cytoplasmic silicon in the form of oligosilicates. According to this hypothesis, oligosilicates are the particles to be responsible for cytoplasmic storage and the transport of silicon ,. Condensation of the oligosilicates gives rise to the elements of siliceous frustules, and the stabilizing LCPAs are removed, which explains their low content in the diatom frustules (nitrogen content <0.05%).The high diversity of LCPAs, which is not directly connected to the peculiarities of the diatoms, possibly points to a minor importance of LCPAs structure in the biochemical synthesis of silica frustules of a definite morphology.…”
