“…The absorption of benzyl penicillin is reduced when a dose is given closely related in time to a meal because of increased destruction by gastric acid (Weiss, Nadel, Eisenberg & Flippin, 1959). Likewise, in the case of the tetracyclines, the concomitant oral adminiistration of calcium, magnesium or aluminium ions, either in the diet or for unrelated medicinal purposes, will adversely affect albsorption due to the formation of insoluible complexes (Current Practice, 1968 ;Mull, 1966;Olson & Riley, 1966). Therapeutic levels are still achieved even under such conditions, however, by penicillin G and the tetracyclines.…”
