Abstract. Multi-Agent Systems (MAS) is a promising software paradigm. Considered as a natural metaphor to modeling complex systems, MAS are applied to develop a wide range of applications. However, the developed system's complexity is a hard obstacle to understand and maintain them. In this paper, some metrics are presented to measure the complexity of MAS. The proposition of these metrics is passed through the proposition of a complexity model for MAS. To validate our proposal, a tool has been developed to measure the JADE-based applications complexity. Furthermore, the collected metrics can also be used as a base to estimate the required effort to maintain JADE-based applications.

The smart-house technology aims to increase home automation and security with reduced energy consumption. A smart house consists of various intelligent sensors and actuators operating on different platforms with conflicting objectives. This paper proposes a multi-agent system (MAS) design framework to achieve smart house automation. The novelties of this work include the developments of (1) belief, desire and intention (BDI) agent behavior models; (2) a regulation policy-based multi-agent collaboration mechanism; and (3) a set of metrics for MAS performance evaluation. Simulations of case studies are performed using the Java Agent Development Environment (JADE) to demonstrate the advantages of the proposed method

This paper studies the complexity of behavior of multi-agent systems. Behavior properties are formulated using classical temporal logic languages and are checked with respect to the transition system induced by the definition of the multi-agent system. We establish various tight complexity bounds of the behavior properties under natural structural and semantic restrictions on agent programs and actions.
