Complex Assessment of the Ecological Development of the Country’s Regions

Abstract: Ecological development is one of the three components of sustainable development. To be able to analyse the impact of economic and social development on the ecological situation of the region, ecological development has to be assessed using quantitative methods. The ecological development of a region can be seen as a complex integrated phenomenon observed in many aspects. After formalizing them, i. e. converting them into criteria, we can form a system that upon applying multi-criteria methods will allow us to… Show more

“…A multicriteria assessment of the development of a socioeconomic system is also a widely used approach. These methods have recently become increasingly popular in terms of measuring social and economic phenomena (Ginevicius et al, 2015(Ginevicius et al, , 2016Mardani et al, 2015;Zhou et al, 2007;Zavadskas et al, 2014;Strezov et al, 2017;Touceda et al, 2018).…”

“…This is necessary because experts are able to assess the weight of only a limited number of indicators (Ginevičius, 2009;Ginevičius et al, 2015Ginevičius et al, , 2016. Based on the available statistical information, it has been determined that 19 indicators give an indication of the regional economic development.…”

“…The qualitative assessment of the standing is limited because this case makes it impossible to compare the cost system aimed at improving the functioning of a system with the scope of improvements achieved. Therefore, two methods for a quantitative assessment of complex phenomena, which manifest in a variety of aspects in reality, have been developed in the recent years (Ginevičius et al, 2015(Ginevičius et al, , 2016Mardani et al, 2015;Zhou et al, 2007;Zavadskas et al, 2014).…”

“…A range of multicriteria methods such as SAW (Simple Additive Weighting), AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process), TOPSIS (Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to an Ideal Solution), PROMETHEE (Preference Ranking Organisation Method for Enrichment Evaluation), COPRAS (Complex proportional assessment), ELECTREI (Elimination and Choice Translating Reality) and others are widely used in scientific research (Balcerzak, 2017;Balcerzak & Pietrzak, 2017a, 2017bJiang-Jiang Wang et al, 2009;Stankevičienė & Menčaitė, 2012;Nugaras & Ginevičius, 2015;Ginevičius et al, 2018;Dobrovolskienė, 2016;Slavinskaitė, 2017;Banasik et al, 2016;Memari et al, 2019;Guerrero-Baena et al, 2015;Latinopoulos & Kechagia, 2015;Podvezko, 2009;Wierzbicka, 2018;Pietrzak & Ziemkiewicz, 2018a, 2018bCalabrese et al, 2019;Balvanshi &Tiwari, 2018;Diaz-Balteiro et al, 2017;. Furthermore, multicriteria methods are applied in doctoral dissertations of social sciences (Gedvilaitė, 2019;Slavinskaitė, 2017;Podviezko, 2013;Kraujalienė, 2019a,b;Rakauskienė, 2013;Kareivaitė, 2012;Labanauskis, 2020;Šimelytė, 2014;Dobrovolskienė, 2016;Bruzgė, 2014;Ubartė, 2017).…”

“…For empirical research, indicators are usually selected through a scientific literature review. However, there are also studies in which the set of indicators is formed based on other sources and expert evaluations (Gedvilaitė, 2019). Therefore, to evaluate the main factors that influence the development of the sharing economy, the indicator system was formed based on a scientific literature analysis and the insights of experts.…”
