“…A sound study of suicide after discharge requires that either the suicide mortality of all discharged patients is known or that information about prior hospitalizations is available for each suicide victim. Studies conducted in smaller geographic regions [22], or from a single hospital [21], might not include patients who move. Case identification is likely to be more complete in studies involving multiple hospitals and larger geographic areas, especially if they are able to employ methods such as the co-registration of national health and mortality data sets [16].…”
