Complete Mucostatic Impression: A New Attempt

Abstract: Hypermobile ridges or flabby edentulous ridges are a common occurrence in edentulous patients. The literature reveals that the mucostatic impression technique is one of the treatment options in this scenario. Conventional mucostatic methods like employing a window tray technique, multiple relief holes, or double spacers can be employed when the flabby tissue is localized. But in cases of generalized flabbiness of the residual ridge, even the manual placement and manipulation of a custom tray may distort the ti… Show more

“…In addition, the intraoral scanner may be able to register the soft tissue morphology in a passive manner to obtain a mucostatic impression, which can be an advantage for patients with hyperplastic edentulous ridges. 17 A verification device and stone cast were fabricated with an additional clinical appointment and laboratory procedures to promote the passive fit of the milled bar. The clinical trial insertion of the CAD/CAM-fabricated milled bar was then omitted before the design and fabrication of the CAD/CAM-fabricated superstructure framework.…”

“…4,22,23 Estas diferenças estarão certamente relacionadas com a escolha do material de impressão, do espaçamento utilizado, do biótipo dos tecidos moles de suporte e das preferências profissionais. [24][25][26] As moldeiras individuais para a realização de impressões definitivas, podem ser realizadas em diversos materiais. Neste estudo, verificou -se que o material mais utilizado para a sua confeção foi o Triad ® Dentsply, uma resina acrílica fotopolimerizável.…”

“…[5] Adhesion force is related to the hydrophilicity/hydrophobicity properties of selected impression material; it generally increases when the impression material is in closer contact with the oral mucosa. [6] A stronger adhesive bond makes removal of IIT more difficult. It may also generate highrisk factors which cause elastic and plastic deformation of the set impression related to the elastic recovery properties of the preferred material.…”
