Complete genome sequence and recombination analysis of infectious bronchitis virus attenuated vaccine strain H120

Abstract: The strain H120 of infectious bronchitis virus (IBV) is one of the earliest and representative attenuated live Infectious Bronchitis vaccine strains. To investigate the genomic feature of H120 and further understand its role in the epidemiology of IBV, complete genome of H120 was sequenced and compared with sequences of other IBV strains by phylogenetic and recombination analysis. The complete genome of H120 is 27631 nucleotides in length and has a similar structure with that of Beaudette strain. We found that… Show more

“…That observation was also reported by Zhang et al [23]. It is interesting that Mass/H52 (8 transferred fragments) and Mass/H120 (6 transferred fragments) share only 5 identical transferred fragments.…”

“…The length of the genome is consistent with those previously reported for IBV [8,23,24], with a small size variation due to few insertions and deletions of nucleotide sequences in different genes and in the untranslated regions. “…The genome organization of IBV isolate CK/SWE/0658946/10 was found to be 5 0 -Pol-S-3a-3b-E-M-5a-5b-N-UTR3 0 . Our findings show that the genome organisation of the sequenced European QX-like genotype is consistent with that of classical IBV [8,23,24]. The existence of two IBV genotypes differing in their genome organization has been reported previously, i.e., classical IBV, a group 3 gammacoronavirus (5 0 -Pol-S-3a-3b-E-M-5a-5b-N-UTR3 0 ) and a novel IBV genotype (5 0 -Pol-S-X1-E-M-N-UTR3 0 or 5 0 -Pol-S-X1-E-M-5b-N-UTR3 0 ) [26].…”

“…Recombination events associated with H120 have been recently shown by complete genome analysis of this vaccine strain and new IBV variants (Zhang et al, 2010). Our analysis of a relatively short 5?-terminal region of the S1 gene revealed crossover events involving four IBV genotypes (Mass, QX, 793/B and D274).…”
