In 2019, a national group of local food system educators and practitioners identified over 140 foundational core competencies critical to local food system development work and began to identify existing educational resources related to these competencies. This process resulted in a new aggregated resource: the Local Food System Practitioner and Educational Resource Database. Included in this database is a core competency matrix that distinguishes three levels of learning for each competency so that practitioners can identify learning opportunities most closely tailored to their educational needs. It also serves as a framework and competency matrix for educators to use to help assess and communicate the learning outcomes of their curricula. This framework is the overall concept for understanding the competencies, and the matrix is the tool developed to assess and evaluate the level at which an educational resource teaches a competency. In this article we apply the newly create core competency matrix to two existing local food system development courses. We share lessons learned from applying the matrix and insights gained from comparing two introductory level courses. We conclude with recommendations for improving the resource database and matrix to a more user-friendly model for educators and local food system practitioners.

This paper presents some methodological aspects that can be used to describe the teaching and learning process of technical translation at initiation level in higher education starting from the modular approach that we have outlined in previous research. The approach is derived from the pedagogical principles of the competence-based approach that conceives the teaching and learning process in terms of competence-based training. The approach adopted could, in our opinion, target the following aspects: defining training objectives, structuring curricular content, describing pedagogical strategy and elaborating teaching resources. The proposed methodological model also relies on the experience of teaching French to engineering students and general and technical translation from French to Romanian in academic field, as well as on observing professional practices.

The study aims to present a course material design of a French specialized language developed using the new technology resources, as part of a distance study program in the field of civil engineering. The course was designed as a learning tool of French for specific purposes in the technical universities. The study presents the theoretical and methodological approach that was founded on the development of the course, the course material structure, the proposed educational resources, traditional and electronic, to meet educational objectives, the importance of using technical means of information and communication in order to improve the foreign language teaching and learning.
