“…The use of economic incentives for forest conservation has been supported since the late 1990s in a number of international and national contexts (e.g., Convention on Biological Diversity; United Nations Environment Programme; and the Sloping Lands Conservation Program in China). Since the emergence of the "ecosystem services" concept, notably used in the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment and the Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity processes between 2005 and 2010, economic incentives for supporting environmentally positive actions have been seen as innovative policy tools for biodiversity conservation worldwide [54].
