Comparison of Two Automatic Staplers for Closing the Bronchial Stump after Pulmonary Resection

Abstract: The incidence of complications following pulmonary resection using an automatic stapler was studied in 348 consecutive patients. A parallel-jaw stapler with two staple lines was used in group A (133 males, 101 females, mean age 66 years) between 1990 and 1995, and a hinged-jaw stapler with three staple lines in group B (70 males, 44 females, mean age 67 years) in 1995-1997.
