Comparison of the motor development in preterm infants from two brazilian regional samples

Abstract: Objective: The present study aimed to compare motor development of infants preterm samples from two regional Brazilian, using a reliable scale evaluation, to determine the influence that environmental context can have on infants exposed to perinatal conditions and similar risk factors. Methods: Two samples were used transverse infants with low birth weight: study group (SG = 70) and comparison group (CG = 43). The evaluation instrument used was the Alberta Infant Motor Scale (AIMS). Results: There were no stat… Show more

“…Biological factors, such as prematurity, low birth weight, neonatal complications, among others 1,7,8 directly affect the potential of motor development and consequently are determinants of delays or changes 9 . Studies show that premature infants, underweight, who suffered neonatal complications have important indices of neurodevelopment delay, which affects subsequently on the development of functional skills and independence 4,10 .…”

“…Prematurity has been linked to greater risk of motor development deficits, mainly when its behavior is compared to that of term babies [2,3]. Motor development is influenced by biological and environmental factors in terms of performance in acquired motor skills [4,5].…”
