Comparison of the Effects of Aerobic Conditioning Before and After Pulmonary Allergic Inflammation

Abstract: The aim of this study is to compare the effects of aerobic conditioning (AC) before (ACBS) and after (ACAS) allergic sensitization. BALB/c mice were divided into two main groups: ACBS and ACAS. Each groups was divided into subgroups: control (nonsensitized/nontrained), AC (nonsensitized/trained), ovalbumin (OVA) (sensitized/nontrained), AC+OVA (trained/sensitized), and OVA+AC (sensitized/trained). Sensitization was induced using OVA and AC performed in treadmill (moderate intensity). We examined IgE and IgG1 l… Show more

“…However, unlike the previous studies, IgE and IgG 1 titers decreased in OVA + AE group as well as total lung IgE. These results may be explained by the ability of AE to attenuate macrophage activation and antigen presentation to B lymphocytes [37]. Besides antigen presentation modulation, the improvements promoted by AE in asthma are attributed to the increase in anti-inflammatory cytokines.…”

“…Several experimental models in mice have shown that AE mitigated an OVA-induced lung inflammation and remodeling. However, in these studies, AE was not able to modify the levels of immunoglobulins, as shown by Pastva et al (2004) and Silva et al (2015) [31,37]. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of AE performed for 2 weeks following OVA sensitization and before a single allergen aerosol challenge.…”

“…. However, more recent studies have also identified immunomodulatory effects of regular physical exercise, including reduced susceptibility to viral illness, improved redox balance in the lung, and attenuated inflammatory responses to bacterial products such as LPS . Other studies have demonstrated the converse: brief intense or prolonged vigorous exercise may temporarily increase inflammation in the lung and susceptibility to infection .…”

“…Th2 cells synthesize high levels of interleukins IL-4, IL-5, and IL-13, which leads to the production of allergen-specific immunoglobulin (Ig) E and the release of mediators from mast cells [17]. Th1 cells suppress Th2 immune responses by secreting interferon IFN-γ.…”
