The aim of this in vitro study was to assess the effect of two different adhesive application methods on shear dentin bond strength (ISO 29022) using three various adhesive systems. A mid-coronal section of 77 intact third human molars with fully developed apices was made to create flat bonding substrates. The materials used in the study were Excite F (Ivoclar Vivadent), Prime&Bond Universal (Dentsply Sirona) and G-Premio Bond (GC). The application of each adhesion system was performed in two different ways. In the first group, the bonding agent was light cured immediately after the application (conventional method), while in the second group the adhesive and composite were cured concurrently (“co-curing” method). A total of 180 specimens were prepared (3 adhesives × 2 method of application × 30 specimens per experimental group), stored at 37 °C in distilled water and fractured in shear mode after 1 week. Statistical analysis was performed using ANOVA and Weibull statistics. The highest bond strength was obtained for Prime&Bond conventional (21.7 MPa), whilst the lowest bond strength was observed when co-curing was used (particularly, Excite F 12.2 MPa). The results showed a significant difference between conventional and co-curing methods in all materials. According to reliability analysis, the co-curing method diminished bond reliability. Different application techniques exhibit different bond strengths to dentin.

Objective The effect of polymerization time and resin shade on the depth of cure (DOC) of two nano-hybrid resin composites (Filtek Z250 XT and IPS Empress Direct) was evaluated and compared. Materials and Methods Sixty specimens were prepared from two shades (A1 and A3) of the resin composites. The specimens were allocated into two groups that were further divided into three subgroups depending on the polymerization time (20, 40, and 60 sec; n = 5). After that, the DOC was evaluated by calculating the polymerized part of the specimen’s thickness to the nearest (0.01 mm) using a high-accuracy micrometer. Each specimen was measured three times, and the corresponding mean reading (in mm) was divided by two to obtain the DOC. The data were analyzed using SPSS software, version 20. Descriptive statistics followed by three-way analysis of variance was applied. Multiple comparisons were made using Scheffe post hoc tests (α = 0.05). Results Filtek Z250 XT-A1-60sec presented with the greatest DOC (7.42 ± 0.47 mm), and the lowest DOC was obtained with IPS Empress-A3-20sec (2.31 ± 0.21 mm). The mean DOC of Filtek Z250 XT and IPS Empress Direct resin composites were 6.18 mm and 3.59 mm, respectively. Statistically significant (p < 0.05) difference was observed between the resin composites. The interaction between independent factors, namely composites, resin shade, and polymerization time, revealed that interaction between them contributed significantly to the DOC (p ≤0.05). However, the interaction between resin shade and the polymerization time was insignificant (p = 0.148). Conclusion Filtek Z250 XT demonstrated greater DOC than IPS Empress Direct resin composite. An increase in polymerization time significantly enhanced the DOC of the resin composites irrespective of the resin shade. Regardless of the resin composite tested, DOC was lower for darker shades (A3).

Kompomer rezinin kalınlığı ve rengi, polimerizasyonda kullanılan ışığın iletimini etkileyebilir. Bu çalışmanın amacı aynı marka farklı renk tonunda kompomer rezinlerin polimerizasyonları esnasındaki direkt ışık geçirgenliklerini değerlendirmektir. Materyal ve Metot: Bu amaçla A2, A3, A3,5, A4, B3 ve C2 renk Glasiosite caps kompomerler (Voco, Germany) kullanıldı. Her renk grubu için silindir şeklinde 2 mm kalınlığında ve 8 mm çapında 10 örnek hazırlandı. Tek bir ışık cihazıyla (Woodpecker Led G, China) polimerize edilen örneklerin direkt ışık geçirgenliği dijital bir radyometre (SDI, Australia) ile 1., 5., 10., 15., ve 20. saniyelerde ölçüldü. Veriler Duncan çoklu karşılaştırma testi kullanılarak analiz edildi. Bulgular: En az direkt ışık geçirgenlik değeri C2 renk kompomerlerde birinci saniyede, en fazla direkt ışık geçirgenlik değeri A2 renk kompomerlerde 20. saniyede gözlendi. A2, A3 ve B3 gruplarından elde edilen direkt ışık geçirgenliği değerleri birbirine benzer olarak bulundu. Sonuç: Kalınlıkları ve üreticisi aynı olan farklı renk kompomerlerin direkt ışık geçirgenlik değerlerinin farklı olduğu ve kompomer rezinlerde kullanılan renk pigmentlerinin direkt ışık iletim değerlerini etkilemekte olduğu sonucuna ulaşıldı.
