Comparison of the Clinical Outcomes between Echelette Extended Range of Vision and Diffractive Bifocal Intraocular Lenses

Abstract: Purpose To compare the clinical outcomes of echelette extended range of vision (ERV) and diffractive bifocal intraocular lenses (IOLs). Methods This is a prospective, consecutive, nonrandomized clinical trial. Seventy-three eligible patients (109 eyes) received the implantation of echelette ERV IOL (Tecnis Symfony ZXR00) or diffractive bifocal IOL (Tecnis ZMB00). 1 week, 1 month, and 3 months after surgery, visual acuities at different distances were examined. At 3 months, defocus curves, contrast sensitivitie… Show more

“… 44 The ZXR00 offered consistent and excellent visual performance, with minimal degrees of visual disturbance in comparison with other multifocal IOLs. 8 , 25 , 33 , 37 , 45 47 However, it showed poor optical quality compared to the ICB00, which showed results similar to those for monofocal IOLs. 3 , 14 , 21 , 34 …”

“…Aggregate raw scores appeared lower (better) than those previously reported for an EDOF lens and bifocal lens using the same questionnaire. 23 There are limitations to the current study. It was at a single center and the number of subjects was limited.…”

“…There have been several reports of comparative studies of these two lenses [13][14][15]. Among these studies, Liu et al [14] performed an orthodox comparative study on visual acuity and quality of vision. Although their study was prospective and had good scienti c validity, it included a small number of patients and did not include the same lens in both eyes.…”
