Comparison of Tensile Strength and Thrombus Formation between Mechanical Microvascular Anastomoses Using a Biodegradable Ring Device and Sutured Anastomoses

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to evaluate whether early motion following mechanical anastomosis using a biodegradable ring device was possible or not, by measuring tensile strength and the rates of thrombus formation at anastomotic sites. Bilateral femoral arteries and veins of 24 rabbits were repaired by sutured anastomoses and biodegradable ring anastomoses. The tensile strength of the anastomotic site was measured by constant loading with a material-testing machine, using specimens excised at 24 hr, 72 hr, … Show more

“…The ratio of vascular thrombosis reported in free flap surgery varies between 5.1% and 9.9% (11-13), and for the prevention of this complication, in addition to the suggestions of agents such as botulinum toxins, low molecular weight heparins, aspirin, prostaglandins, dextran inhibitors, and other various agents (14)(15)(16)(17)(18)(19)(20)(21)(22), studies on anastomosis have also been carried out (23)(24)(25)(26)(27)(28)(29).…”

“…Die Erfahrungen bei der Verwendung mechanischer Anastomosen zeigen, dass diese die Anastomosierung vereinfachen und das Vorgehen deutlich verkürzen [4]. Darüber hinaus tritt eine Thrombenbildung bei den nahtlosen Anastomosen praktisch nicht mehr auf [3].…”
