Comparison of Systemic and Renal Hemodynamics Measured by Doppler Ultrasonography in Canine Experimental Hypovolemia.

Abstract: ABSTRACT. The aim of this study was to examine renal hemodynamics at the hypovolemic and recovery phases in two different hypovolemic shock models using Doppler ultrasonography, and to compare this with systemic hemodynamics. In experiment 1, the hypovolemic phase was induced in 6 mongrel dogs by removing arterial blood at 30 ml/kg for 60 min. In the recovery phase, this blood was reinfused at 30 ml/kg over 60 min. In experiment 2, hypovolemia was induced in 12 beagle dogs by rapid blood removal until blood pr… Show more

“…First, the morphometric assessments were made (kidney length and diameter). Color Doppler was used to assess the quality of the vascular flow in the renal hilum and guide the measurement of the flow by spectral Doppler, obtaining values for flow velocity and RI (Chetboul et al, ; Koma et al, ; Miyamoto et al, ; Yoo et al, ). Three repeat measurements were taken of the blood flow in the main branch of the renal artery in each animal, to ensure the accuracy of the values obtained and the average values.…”

“…Flow‐doppler sonography is a useful technique to estimate the renal hemodynamic in the dog. This technique is noninvasive, without complications for the animal (Engelhorn et al, ; Miyamoto et al, ). The study based on the Doppler examination of blood flow in organs such as the kidneys, allows detection of flow presence, direction, type, and abnormalities, contributing to a more accurate diagnosis (Szatmári et al, ; Melo et al, ).…”
