Comparison of stress distribution between complete denture and implant‐retained overdenture‐2D FEA

Abstract: The aim of this study was to compare the stress distribution induced by posterior functional loads on conventional complete dentures and implant-retained overdentures with different attachment systems using a two-dimentional Finite Element Analysis (FEA-2D). Three models representative of edentulous mandible were constructed on AutoCAD software; Group A (control), a model of edentulous mandible supporting a complete denture; Group B, a model of edentulous mandible supporting an overdenture over two splinted im… Show more

“…4 The amount of rotation depends on both the attachment system and the geometric anatomy of the residual ridge. 5,6 Several in vivo, 7 ex vivo, 8 and in vitro [9][10][11][12] studies have reported that the applied load is concentrated on the anterior implants during function. Therefore, most dentists provide maintenance for the anterior implants.…”

“…The union of implants through a bar in an overdenture transmits more stress to the implants than in isolated systems, easing the load on the edge and providing improved support and retention [13].…”
