Comparison of recovery patterns of gait patterns according to the paralyzed side in Korean stroke patients

Abstract: If the use of gait analysis systems (GAITRite, G-walk, and Treadmill) confirms differences in gait recovery pattern among stroke patients according to the paralyzed side, the findings will provide essential evidence for differential treatment of stroke patients on that basis.

“…The sensor was placed around the fifth lumbar vertebra with a semi-elastic belt. 20,21 The sampled data were transmitted by Bluetooth to a special software program (BTS G-Studio; BTS Bioengineering SpA. ), which calculated gait cycle characteristics, such as step lengths and stance durations, using the software's algorithm.…”

“…The kind of measurement that we proposed was conducted for the first time, so there is no strict comparison with other research. The most common gait analysis is conducted in children with scoliosis or cerebral palsy (CP) or in adults with hemiplegia [ 24 , 25 , 26 , 27 , 28 , 29 , 30 ]. We have tried to compare some of the results, while keeping cautions.…”

“…The inclusion criteria were a history of stroke within the previous 6 months and the ability to safely walk 5 m without physical assistance or unaided. Those who had difficulty walking due to other conditions such as musculoskeletal disease were excluded [ 12 , 13 ]. Subjects were in the Korean-National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (K-NIHSS) based minor stroke just before their return to daily life.…”
