“…TIVA for bronchoscopic lung biopsy has significant advantages over volatile anesthetics: peripheral navigation has an open circuit contraindicating volatile anesthesia, which may result in inadequate drug delivery and potential toxicity to the bronchoscopist and supporting staff 20,21 . TIVA has a reduced risk of postoperative nausea and vomiting and is useful in both difficult intubations and extubations 22 …”

“…20,21 TIVA has a reduced risk of postoperative nausea and vomiting and is useful in both difficult intubations and extubations. 22 Neuromuscular blockade is essential for LNVP to minimize excessive respiratory motion. Nondepolarizing paralytics were utilized in all cases, either rocuronium or vecuronium.…”

“…Previous studies have demonstrated that Total Intravenous Anesthesia (TIVA) is effective in reducing the incidence of PONV. Amiri et al 8 performed a randomized controlled trial comparing TIVA versus inhalation anesthesia on the incidence of PONV in 105 patients undergoing abdominal surgery. In this study, authors have shown once again that TIVA, as compared to inhalational-based anesthesia (isoflurane and fentanyl), significantly reduced the incidence of postoperative nausea and decrease the need for antiemetic rescue medication after surgery.…”
