“…In accordance with the previous reports from either developed or developing countries, we found that adolescent mothers more frequently experienced anemia than adult mothers (3)(4)(5)(6)9,10). Iron requirements during adolescence significantly increase due to faster growth spurts and the start of menses (29).…”

“…On the contrary, some large population studies reported that fetal death was usually either unaffected or decreased in cases with younger maternal age (3,4,13,15). Also, conflicting results were reported in previous investigations about neonatal mortality in adolescent pregnancy (4,6,(8)(9)(10)(11)13,14). In our study, infants from younger adolescent mothers showed a higher risk of early neonatal death related to preterm delivery and LBW (adjusted OR: 21.09), although this may be due to the small sample numbers.…”

“…With respect to gestational age, results showed that 87% were between 37-41 weeks and only 6% were between 33-36 weeks, thus not confirming the hypothesis of other studies, that the probability of premature births would higher among adolescents. The higher incidence of preterm birth among adolescents was observed in several national and international studies, given the lack of physical maturity of adolescent pregnancy, complications during gestation, inadequate care during the prenatal period and delivery, the number of prenatal consultations, the type of pregnancy, and delivery by cesarean section ( 11 , 12 , 19 , 20 ) .…”

“…La adolescencia según su desarrollo psicosocial se clasifica en temprana (10-13 años), media (14 a 16 años) y tardía (17 a 19 años) 4 , lo que nos hace entender como una etapa crítica del crecimiento ya que un 20% de la talla se logra en este periodo y el embarazo interfiere con dicho proceso y resulta preocupante porque puede estar relacionado a más complicaciones perinatales en relación inversa a la edad materna en comparación con las gestantes mayores de 19 años [5][6][7][8] .…”
