Comparison of performances between partial double-pass and full double-pass systems in two-stage L-band EDFA

Abstract: Abstract:The two-stage L-band EDFA with partial double-pass (DP) system is compared with the full DP system. The partial DP system has a higher gain and lower noise figure at small input signal power compared with the full DP system. The small signal gain and noise figure are obtained at about 31.2 dB and 6.2 dB, respectively, for the partial DP system. The reduction of gain in full DP system is due to the double-propagation of conventionalband amplified spontaneous emission in the short length erbiumdoped fib… Show more

“…4.1 Self-calibrating automated characterization system for EDFA Ultrahigh-capacity optical transmission systems are a vital component for 21st-century telecommunications networks that support various expanding information systems such as the Internet, mobile communications, and digital cable television [15].Wavelength-divisionmultiplexing (WDM)systems employing optical amplifiers such as the erbium-dopedfiber amplifier (EDFA) are considered the most effective solution to increase data transmission capacity [16][17]. The main characteristics of EDFAs are their gain and noise figure, and their values depend on the input signal wavelength, input signal power, and pump power [4].…”

“…pumping based on side pumping (GTWave) fiber tech nology has also been designed for this L band ampli fier [12]. In addition, using double pass configuration [13], and incorporating C band light assistant pump ing [14] have also been proven as one of the techniques in enhancing the gain and noise figure (NF) for L band EDFA.…”
