Comparison of Metacognition Awareness of Mathematics and Mathematics Education Students Based on the Ability of Mathematics

Abstract: Awareness of metacognition is one of mental process that occurs when a person knows what he thinks, including the knowledge and awareness to do something or realize the reason that. The purpose of this study is (1) to describe how the metacognition awareness of mathematics student and mathematics education student based on mathematical ability, and (2) to know the difference metacognitive awareness between of mathematics students with math education students based on mathematical ability. This research subject… Show more

“…The description above shows that the presentation of mathematical concepts by memorizing and remembering does not raise students' awareness to understand a concept. This is in line with the results of previous research in the Mathematics department of Halu Oleo University, that the level of students' metacognitive awareness at the reflective level was only 38.64% [6]. This illustrates that the metacognition ability of Mathematics Department Students in solving mathematical concepts is still low.…”

“…This illustrates that the metacognition ability of Mathematics Department Students in solving mathematical concepts is still low. In addition, when comparing the metacognition awareness of male and female students at a relatively different reflective level, male students only reached 35.29%, while female students only reached 40.74% [6].…”

“…In an effort to achieve the goals of mathematics learning, the teacher as one of the factors that adequately determines the success of students, always strives to improve quality in carrying out the mathematics learning process, so that it can improve students' mathematics learning outcomes. Related to this, Nasution (2008: 115;Fitriana, 2019;Misu, 2019) states that in order to obtain satisfying learning outcomes, a teacher should strive so that students can be active in the learning process. A teacher is expected to act as a facilitator and motivator for students who are able to choose learning strategies that can activate students.…”
