Comparison of Horizontal Corneal Diameter Measurements Using the Orbscan IIz and Pentacam HR Systems

Abstract: The observed differences in WTW distance readings between the Pentacam HR and the Orbscan IIz are not clinically relevant, and the 2 devices could be used interchangeably in clinical practice.

“…In addition to thin corneas, mice and rats have corneas that are quite small in diameter compared to people (approximately 2 mm versus 11 mm respectively) (Henriksson et al 2009, Salouti et al 2013). Due to their small diameter it can be difficult to isolate the axial cornea when performing an alkali burn.…”

“…Accurate IOL power calculation particularly depends on accurate measurement of corneal keratometry readings ( K 1, K 2) and anterior chamber depth (ACD) and axial length (AL) values [4, 5]. Accurate measurement of pupil size (PS) and horizontal iris width (white-to-white [WTW]) values is another important factor that increases the success of cataract and refractive surgery [69]. …”

“…A study undertaken previously showed that the repeatability and reproducibility of AL-Scan is excellent in terms of all parameters, except the WTW and PD and compares favorably with the IOL Master 22 . Another study also found that the repeatability and reproducibility of both devices were high for all ocular biometry measurements tested except for the WTW corneal diameter 23 . Both these studies also showed that the IOL power calculation was similar with the AL-scan and IOL Master.…”
