SUMMARY: The Messolonghi-Etoliko lagoon is one of the largest lagoon system in the northern Mediterranean coast. This area contains six clearly distinct lagoons with different topographic and hydrological features. The fishery landings of the lagoons are based on the ontogenic and seasonal migrations of the species. The total annual fishery landings of the barrier fish traps are estimated as 195 mt and are mainly composed of 16 species belonging to 8 families. Eel (Anguilla anguilla), the four species of Mugilidae (Liza saliens, L. aurata, L. ramada and Mugil cephalus), the two species of Sparidae (Sparus aurata and Diplodus annularis) and one species of Mullidae (Mullus barbatus) represent more than 92% of the total annual landings. The composition of the fishery landings varies between lagoons. The cluster analysis showed three groups of lagoons. The first group comprised lagoons in which the landings were dominated by eel, the second group was dominated by Mugilidae species and S. aurata, and the third by L. ramada and M. cephalus. The diversity index of the fishery landings is fairly constant in time, except for the Etoliko lagoon, where repeated anoxic crises decreased the diversity index value to almost zero in 1992. All the landing series showed a dominant annual cycle. Two seasonal patterns of the fishery landings were observed and linked to the fish spawning behaviour and/or their reaction to environmental forcings. The first one concerns species caught from summer to early autumn and the second pattern concerns species trapped during their autumn to winter offshore migration.Key words: Mediterranean lagoon, fisheries landings, fish diversity, spatial pattern, seasonal fluctuations. RESUMEN: VARIACIONES GEOGRÁFICAS DE LA PRODUCCIÓN PISCÍCOLA DE LA FORMACIÓN DE MARISMAS DE MESOLOGI-ETO-LIKÓ (GRECIA OCCIDENTAL). -La formación de lagunas de Mesologi-Etolikó es una de las reservas naturales marinas más grandes de la franja septentrional del Mediterráneo. Este conjunto está compuesto por seis distintas marismas, con diferentes características topográficas e hidrográficas cada una de ellas. La producción piscícola de las marismas se basa en los movimientos estacionales de las especies hacia el mar. Del estudio del trampeo se concluye que los movimientos migratorios equivalen a 195 toneladas y se componen principalmente de 16 especies las cuales pertenecen a 8 familias: anguila (Anguilla anguilla), cuatro especies de Mugilidae (Liza saliens, L. aurata, L. ramada, y Mugil cephalus), dos especies de Sparidae (Sparus aurata y Diplodus annularis) y una especie de Mullidae (Mullus barbatus). The spatial and temporal fish species assemblages were analyzed throughout two annual cycles (2004-2005 and 2007-2008) in the Ría Lagartos Lagoon system, Mexico, via non-parametric multivariate analyses. We compared density and biomass of fish species among five habitat types defined by combinations of structure and environmental characteristics (hyperhaline, rocky, seagrass, channel, and marine), and three climatic seasons (dry, rainy, and northerlies). A total of 11,187 individuals distributed in 32 families and 63 species were collected. The most numerically abundant species were Floridichthys polyommus and Cyprinodon artifrons, while Sphoeroides testudineus contributed to the greatest biomass. Species composition consisted mainly of estuarine and euryhaline marine species. Spatially, a saline gradient was observed with marine conditions in the mouth, and increasing to over 100 in the inner zone of the system. Species richness, diversity and biomass declined from the mouth to the inner zone, while density showed an inverse tendency, with the highest values in the inner zone. Thus the salinity was the variable that best explained the spatial fish assemblages' structure. The ichthyofauna composition did not change over time, but the dominant species varied with the years. The abundance of juvenile specimens, suggest that the different habitats are used as feeding and breeding zones; hence it is proposed that protection strategies be pursued not only for the lagoon system but also for the northern zone of the Yucatan Peninsula. Los ensamblajes espacio temporales de peces fueron analizados a través de dos ciclos anuales (2004-2005) y 2007-2008) en el sistema lagunar Ría Lagartos, México, vía análisis multivariados no paramétricos. Se comparó la densidad y biomasa de peces entre los cinco tipos de hábitats definidos por la combinación de características estructurales y ambientales (hiperhalino, rocoso, pastos, canal y marino) y tres temporadas climáticas (secas, lluvias y nortes). Un total de 11.187 individuos fueron recolectados, distribuidos en 32 familias y 63 especies. Las especies numéricamente más abundantes fueron Floridichthys poliommus y Cyprinodon artifrons, mientras que Sphoeroides testudineus contribuyó principalmente con la biomasa. La composición de especies consistió principalmente de especies marinas eurihalinas y estuarinas. Espacialmente, un gradiente de salinidad fue observado con condiciones marinas en la boca del sistema lagunar, incrementándose hacia la zona interna con valores superiores a 100. La riqueza de especies, diversidad y biomasa disminuyó desde la boca hacia la zona interna, mientras que la densidad mostró una tendencia inversa, con valores más altos en la zona interna. RESUMOAs lagoas costeiras exercem funções importantes de natureza ecológica e socioeconômica, devido à sua alta produtividade e ao uso múltiplo de suas águas. O objetivo desta pesquisa foi avaliar a variação temporal de algumas variáveis ambientais da água da Lagoa Salina (nordeste do Pará), cuja dinâmica apresenta características peculiares, variando em função da sazonalidade, das grandes marés de sizígia e das substâncias húmicas oriundas do manguezal, predominante na bacia de drenagem. A água foi monitorada, mensalmente, durante doze meses, com base nos valores de temperatura, salinidade, oxigênio dissolvido, pH, condutividade elétrica, turbidez, transparência, profundidade e pluviosidade. Os resultados mostraram que somente as variáveis, salinidade, condutividade e pH, apresentaram diferença significativa entre os períodos chuvoso e seco, indicando a influência da pluviosidade. A Análise de Componentes Principais explicou 71,9% da variação dos dados, com o Componente 1 refletindo a influência da sazonalidade sobre transparência da água, condutividade e pluviosidade, e o Componente 2 refletindo a influência das marés de sizígia e do início do período chuvoso sobre pH e turbidez.
