Comparison between single-incision and conventional laparoscopic cholecystectomy: a prospective trial of the Club Coelio

Abstract: Compared to CLC, SILC is associated with a longer operative time, an equivalent morbidity and QOL, and a better cosmetic result. The improved aesthetic result also leads to a better global patient satisfaction.

“…13,14 Single-incision laparoscopic cholecystectomy compared to MILC has the same or longer operation time, equivalent morbidity and quality of life. [6][7][8][9][10]14 The cosmetic results 2,3,9,14 and global patient satisfaction 6 are rated excellent by the patients undergone SILC. Despite higher complication rate in initial cases has been reported in some papers, 5 SILC remain a safe, although technically more challenging alternative to traditional MILC.…”

“…We used a 5-grade Likert scale to assess the cosmetic result. This method was already used in previous studies evaluating the cosmetical outcome after procedures by plastic surgeons [ 36 , 37 ], but also after cholecystectomies [ 38 ]. By using a similar tool to measure the cosmetical outcome, we aimed to build a basis for comparison with other studies, which is, unfortunately, measured differently within several studies and therefore drawing comparisons is impeded.…”

“…Single-incision surgery has benefits of fewer surgical wounds that allow faster recovery by reducing surgical stress and pain, leading to better cosmesis [ 2 ]. Despite these advantages, single-incision cholecystectomy has no advantages in operation time, the average length of stay in a hospital, return to normal activities, or postoperative quality of life compared to CLC [ 3 , 4 ].…”
