“…According to Taylor's theory, it is the zone where Poincare´waves are generated. An analysis of many sea regions where sandbanks are found indicates that this kind of seabed instabilities tend to happen more vigorously on the side of the incident Kelvin wave, for example, in the Colorado River Delta (Carbajal and Montan˜o 2001), the North Sea and the Gulf of Korea (Off 1963). We think that this subject is worth studying in more detail in future research works.…”

“…Quasi-periodic bed forms, often called linear sandbanks (Huthnance 1982) or sand ridges (Pattiaratchi and Collins 1987), have been observed in shelf seas like the North Sea, Colorado River Delta, Persian Gulf and Gulf of Korea among others (Off 1963;Carbajal and Montan˜o 2001). Sufficient sand availability and strong enough hydrodynamic processes are necessary to transport the sediments.…”

“…The bed load transport modeling, in flow models in which the transport is parameterized as a function of the depth averaged velocities, has been given by Huthnance (1982); Hulsher (1993); Schuttelaars and De Swart (1996); Van Rijn (1993); Montaño-Ley (2003); Montaño and Carbajal (2008); Carbajal and Montaño (1999) and Carbajal and Montaño (2001). The volumetric sediment flux S b = (S bx , S by ) in the active layer, given by Van Rijn (1993) is:…”

“…In tidal seas, e.g. in the North Sea, the occurrence and movement of large sandy bed forms at depths of 20 ± 30 m, called sand waves or sand banks, are closely associated with tidal phenomena, see Carbajal & Montaño (2001) and Hulscher & van den Brink (2001). Similar large bed forms have also been observed, albeit sporadically, in non-tidal realities, namely in the south Baltic coastal areas at depths of 15-30 m, see Rudowski et al (2008).…”
