Comparing Multi-Criteria Decision Making Models for Evaluating Environmental Education Programs

Abstract: Educators in the field of Environmental Education often have difficulty identifying and selecting programs that have the potential to best maximize needed resources to implement and achieve desired outcomes. This difficulty is, in part, due to their lack of expertise in evaluation knowledge and practice. The use of multi-criteria decision-making models in evaluating environmental education programs is new and, as a result, not many models have been used and tested in the specific domain. Comparisons of multi-c… Show more

“…Moreover, MCDM has different tools and methods that can be used in various fields, such as finance, engineering, and education, where decision makers compare different options based on multiple factors. For instance, in finance, MCDM can help portfolio managers balance risk and return [18,19,56]; in engineering, MCDM can help design engineers choose the best manufacturing contractors [47]; and in education, MCDM can help educators in assessing education quality standards for HEIs based on multiple criteria [57][58][59]. Therefore, based on the importance of the financial sustainability plan in HEIs, especially for answering this research question, two recent MCDM tools will be integrated for the case study at KAU.…”

“…Inconsistencies were eliminated by ranking the performance scores using the weighted sum and weighted product methods. Kabassi [18] applied four MCDM methods (SAW, WPM, TOPSIS, and 'Preference Ranking Organization Method for Enrichment Evaluation II (PROMETHEE II)' to evaluate environmental education programs and compare their performance. According to the sensitivity analysis, the TOPSIS method was more sensitive, and the SAW method was more robust.…”
