Comparative study of the application of microcurrent and AsGa 904 nm laser radiation in the process of repair after calvaria bone excision in rats

Abstract: This study evaluated the effects of microcurrent stimulation (10 µA/5 min) and 904 nm GaAs laser irradiation (3 J cm −2 for 69 s/day) on excisional lesions created in the calvaria bone of Wistar rats. The results showed significant responses in the reduction of inflammatory cells and an increase in the number of new blood vessels, number of fibroblasts and deposition of birefringent collagen fibers when these data were compared with those of samples of the untreated lesions. Both applications, microcurrent and… Show more

“…A 5.0 mm saw (SIN 300.0112—50W/100 Hz) under constant irrigation of sterile physiological solution was used to create a critical defect of 25 mm 2 in calvaria preserving the dura mater. After the surgical procedure, analgesia with sodium dipyrone (500 mg/mL) and tramadol (0.1 mg/kg) was used in the water for 72 hr …”

“…The microcurrent application was performed using a low‐intensity transcutaneous electrical stimulator (Physiotonus Microcurrent, BIOSET ® , Indústria de Tecnologia Eletrônica Ltd., Rio Claro, SP, Brazil). Two metal electrodes were placed around the bone defect (10 μA/05 min) . The applications started after surgery and were performed on alternate days during the experimental period.…”

“…For this purpose, the animals were immobilised without sedation and treated daily at the same time for 21 days. Daily treatment was chosen according to the literature and experimental designs previously conducted by our and other research groups [15,17,24,51,52].…”

“…The density energy used in this experimental model has been used by our research group with favourable results for tissue repair [15,51,52], and the literature reports that different authors used similar energy density [13,24,25,53]. Non-contact laser irradiation was performed punctually, in the continuous mode, at a distance of ±2 mm and an angle of 90°in relation to the wound surface.…”
