Background The Stroop test is a gold-standard cognitive function test that assesses selective attention. There are discrepancies of having language interaction in bilingual individuals on stroop test. Objective To assess selective attention of Nepalese in Nepali and English versions of stroop test and investigating gender differences in it. Method The study includes male (n 33) and female (n 33) of age 20-40 years. Their first home language is Nepali. The comparison of congruent and incongruent reaction time (selective attention) between two test versions was analyzed by Paired t-test. Gender differences on selective attention were analyzed by Independent sample t-test. Data are expressed as mean ± SD, p < 0.05. Result The congruent time in Nepali test (47.34 ± 9.23) was higher than English (42.21 ± 10.17) test. The selective attention in Nepali (113.11 ± 24.04) was significantly better (low latency) than English version (119.67 ± 28.81) of the test. Female outperformed male in selective attention on both the versions. Conclusion Orthographically and phonologically dissimilar languages affect the reaction time of bilingual individuals. Nepali stroop test can be a valid tool in assessing selective attention on Nepalese population. Females outperform males on selective attention as assessed by stroop test.

Hypertension is categorized as the silent disease since the patients do not know that they have it before taking the blood pressure check-up. Hypertension which is not treated properly and prolonged can effect to stroke, heart attack, and main factor of chronicle kidney failure. The hypertension can non-pharmacology. The classical music and Qur'an Murottal therapies. to identify the effectiveness of classical music and Qur'an murottal on patients with hypertension in middle adulthood. the type of research is quasi experimental design with the method of two groups in pre and post test design. The sample of this research is 32 persons result shows the systolic score of p value is 0,005 (p<0,05), it means there is the meaningful difference, while the diastolic score of p value shows 0,287 (p>0,05), it means there is no meaningful difference. The drop mean of blood pressure in classical music therapy group is systolic s4,06 mmHg and diastolic 2,54 mmHg, while the Qur'an murottal therapy group is systolic 6,90 mmHg and 3,27 mmHg.: this research proves that the Qur'an murottal therapy is more effective in dropping the blood pressure than the classical music therapy.

The Emotional Effect of Background Music on Selective Attention of Adults

Daily activities can often be performed while listening to music, which could influence the ability to select relevant stimuli while ignoring distractors. Previous studies have established that the level of arousal of music (e.g., relaxing/stimulating) has the ability to modulate mood and affect the performance of cognitive tasks. The aim of this research was to explore the effect of relaxing and stimulating background music on selective attention. To this aim, 46 healthy adults performed a Stroop-type task in five different sound environments: relaxing music, stimulating music, relaxing music-matched noise, stimulating music-matched noise, and silence. Results showed that response times for incongruent and congruent trials as well as the Stroop interference effect were similar across conditions. Interestingly, results revealed a decreased error rate for congruent trials in the relaxing music condition as compared to the relaxing music-matched noise condition, and a similar tendency between relaxing music and stimulating music-matched noise. Taken together, the absence of difference between background music and silence conditions suggest that they have similar effects on adult’s selective attention capacities, while noise seems to have a detrimental impact, particularly when the task is easier cognitively. In conclusion, the type of sound stimulation in the environment seems to be a factor that can affect cognitive tasks performance.
