Comparative Chondroprotective Effects of Intra-Articular Hyaluronic Acid and Triamcinolone in Murine Model of Osteoarthritis

Abstract: Osteoarthritis is a heterogeneous disease of joints that affects mainly older population. Definitive cure of osteoarthritis is still undiscovered. This study was designed to evaluate and compare the chondroprotective effects of hyaluronic acid and triamcinolone in murine model of osteoarthritis. Methods: This Laboratory based experimental study was carried out in Pharmacology Department, Army Medical College Rawalpindi, from April-June 2019. Osteoarthritis was induced by medial menisectomy and anterior cruciat… Show more

“…The physically induced model produces KOA by causing instability during surgery, such as ACLT and meniscectomy. 47 , 48 Chemically induced KOA is caused by injecting chemical drugs, such as MIA, papain, and collagenase, to alter homeostasis and destroy joint structure. 49 , 50 , 51 In addition to the aforementioned methods, there are many other methods to induce the KOA model, such as freezing and fat induction.…”

“…The secondary models can be caused by physical or chemical pathogenic factors to induce certain damage to animal tissues, organs, or the whole body, and some symptoms similar to those of human diseases. Chemically induced KOA is caused by injecting chemical drugs, such as MIA, papain, and collagenase, to alter homeostasis and destroy joint structure 49–51 .…”

“…Therefore, both intestinal defense function and immune regulation function are reduced. A large number of bacteria and their metabolites enter the body through the intestinal mucosal barrier, causing or aggravating the occurrence of UC (Randlane et al, 2017;Ishaq et al, 2017). In recent years, along with the further study of the protective effect of the intestinal barrier, more and more attention has been paid to the intestinal mucosal barrier against the diseases caused by the invasion of foreign pathogens.…”
