“…Hydrodistillation and simultaneous water steam distillationorganic solvent extraction (SDE) methods 17 were used in this study. The extracted oils were then dehydrated by anhydrous sodium sulphate, to yield 0.3% and 1.13% of brown-red oil respectively.…”

“…A couple of studies in the literature have reported composition of the essential oil of Artemisia sieberi, extracted by hydrodistillation method and also extraction using supercritical carbon dioxide from different locations of Iran [12][13][14][15][16][17] . It is clear that production of secondary metabolites in plants is firmly depended on ecological conditions 18 and, in addition, yield of oil extraction and the chemical composition of the obtained essential oil may change as the method of extraction changes.…”

“…Most of essential oil is non-polar component; therefore, because of decreasing their solubility in supercritical CO 2 , the efficiency of extraction decreases. But by adding of more methanol as a modifier, due to an extraction of unwanted components such as free fatty acids, alcohols and waxes, the efficiency of the extraction increases (Ghasemi et al, 2007). Zahedi et al (2010) investigated the effect of methanol on extraction of nimbin from neem seeds.…”

“…By using the suitable extraction conditions, SFE is more selective than the conventional hydrodistillation method in the extraction of essential oil and the reservation of its quality (Ghasemi et al, 2007). The quality of safflower seed oil obtained by supercritical CO 2 extraction is superior to that of oil obtained by traditional methods (Han et al, 2009).…”

“…Artemisia species are distributed in the northern hemisphere, especially, along the Mediterranean coast of Europe, Southwest of Asia and Africa (Trease & Evans, 2002;Salido et al, 2004;Ferchichi et al, 2006). This genus, with its common Persian name "Dermane" and the common English name "Wormwood", includes approximately 34 species that are found wild all over Iran (Mozaffarian, 1996;Ghasemi et al, 2007). Several coumarins, flavonoids, phenylpropanoids, sterols and terpenoids (specially sesquiterpenes and monoterpenes), and their glycosides were isolated from this genus, and shown to have antimalarial, antiviral, antitumor, antipyretic, antihaemorrhagic, anticoagulant, antiinflammatory, antioxidant, antihepatitis, antiulcerogenic, antispasmodic and anticomplementary activities (Kim et al, 2002;Lee et al, 2003).…”
