This study determines and analyzes the prevalence of Urinary Incontinence (UI) and its demographic and clinical predictors. This epidemiological and cross-sectional study was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of the University of São Paulo, Nursing School.The sample was randomly selected by cluster technique and included 519 individuals aged ≥18 years, living in 341 houses in urban areas. Data were analyzed through Chi-Square, Hosmer Lemeshow's test and multivariate logistic regression (stepwise). Prevalence rates were standardized by gender and age. Of the 519 people composing the sample: 20.1% had UI, 32.9% were women and 6.2% were men. Longer duration of losses (OR = 29.3; p<0.001), diabetes mellitus (OR = 17.7; p<0.001), stroke (OR = 15.9; p<0.001), and cystocele (OR = 12.5; p <0.001) were the factors most strongly associated with UI. This study enabled the identification of UI epidemiology and can contribute to the development of public policies for its primary and secondary prevention and treatment, even if such measures are initially implemented at the city level. Prevalencia de la incontinencia urinaria en muestra aleatoria de la población urbana de Pouso Alegre, Minas Gerais, BrasilEl estudio tiene por objetivo conocer la prevalencia de la incontinencia urinaria (IU), de los factores de predicción demográficos y clínicos de la presencia de IU. Se trata de un estudio epidemiológico de corte transversal, aprobado por el Comité de Ética de la Escuela de Enfermería de la Universidad de Sao Paulo. Muestreo estratificado por conglomerado compuesto de 519 individuos con edad ≥18 años, residentes en 341 domicilios del área urbana, sorteados aleatoriamente. Las pruebas utilizadas fueron Chi-cuadrado, HosmerLemeshow y regresión logística multivariante (stepwise). Las prevalencias de IU fueron estandarizadas por sexo y edad, en una muestra de 519 personas, siendo 20,1 % en la población general -32,9% eran mujeres y 6,2% hombres. Los factores más fuertemente asociados a la IU fueron: mayor tiempo de pérdidas (OR=29,3; p<0,001), diabetes mellitus (OR=17,7; p<0,001), accidente vascular encefálico (OR=15,9; p<0,001) y cistocele (OR=12,5; p<0,001). El estudio permitió conocer la epidemiologia de la IU y puede contribuir para el desarrollo de políticas públicas para su prevención primaria y secundaria, su tratamiento, inclusive considerando su inicio en el ámbito municipal.

| This quasi experimental study analyzed the influence of a physical therapy intervention on the quality of life (QoL) of women with urinary incontinence (UI) and its effectiveness for urinary loss. Took part in this study 55 women (35 to 87 years) with a clinical diagnosis of UI who underwent an anamnesis and had the function of their pelvic floor muscles (PFMF; bidigital test) and their QoL measured (King's Health Questionnaire -KHQ). Up to 15 weekly sessions were carried out with endovaginal electrical stimulation and perineal exercises. Once the participants reported not losing urine or expressed the desire to stop the treatment, it was terminated, regardless of the number of sessions undertaken. After treatment, the bidigital test and the KHQ were repeated and the participants were asked if they considered themselves to be continent, satisfied with the treatment or not improved. Most participants were aged between 51 and 60 years, underwent vaginal delivery with episiotomy and had prolapse. Most had mixed UI, followed by stress UI. The situations when the urinary loss most commonly occurred were coughing and sneezing, which happened mostly in jets. There was a significant improvement in all of the KHQ domains, except the general health perception. After the intervention, 90.9% of the women said that they were continent or satisfied with the treatment. The physical therapy intervention resulted in improved QoL and it was effective for containing the urinary loss.Keywords | urinary incontinence; quality of life; women's health.Quality of life assessment before and after a physical therapy intervention for urinary incontinence

RESUMOA falta de continência urinária, caracterizada pela perda involuntária de urina, acomete a qualidade de vida dos portadores, afetando o contato social, a higiene e a vida sexual. Assim, fazem se necessários estudos sobre o perfil sociodemográfico e clínico de pacientes acometidos por essa disfunção. O objetivo deste estudo foi analisar o perfil sociodemográfico e clínico de pacientes com incontinência urinária atendidos no setor de Fisioterapia Uroginecológica de uma clínica escola do noroeste do Paraná. Trata-se de um estudo descritivo, com dados secundários coletados de prontuários de 2013 a 2015. A maior ocorrência de incontinência urinária foi encontrada na faixa etária de 66 a 75 anos. Verificou-se que 66,67% dos participantes apresentaram Incontinência Urinária Mista, 21,21% Incontinência Urinária de Esforço e 12,12% Incontinência Urinária de Urgência. A maior prevalência de incontinência urinária nos pacientes da Clínica Escola foi encontrada no sexo feminino, em idosos, sendo que o tipo misto foi o de maior ocorrência, embora com relatos de perda com intensidade leve.
