Compact multiband CPW fed monopole antenna with square ring and T‐shaped strips

Abstract: A novel compact wideband antenna with T‐shaped strips inside square ring is proposed. By stacking a pair of T‐shaped strip one above another, the antenna covers the WIMAX (3.3‐3.8 and 5.25‐5.85 GHz), WLAN (2.41‐2.54, 5.15‐5.35, and 5.72‐5.85 GHz), and lower band of future 5G communications (3.6‐6 GHz). The antenna is fabricated on 17 × 33 × 1.6 mm3 FR‐4 substrate. UWB operation is achieved using a rectangular shaped slot in the ground plane. The designed antenna has been fabricated and measured. Simulation res… Show more

“…Owing to their attractive features of low cost, lightweight, small size, ease of fabrication, and wide bandwidth, planar monopole antennas are among the preferred technologies for meeting the mobile terminals’ antenna requirements [ 6 ]. They are mostly designed using either microstrip feedline [ 7 , 8 ] or grounded/ungrounded coplanar waveguide feed [ 9 , 10 , 11 ].…”

“…The first stage i.e., Antenna I consists of a rectangular ring ( w 1 × h 1 ), strip line ( w 8 × h 6 ), incremented strip line ( w 7 × h 5 ) and ground palne ( w × h 7 ). From [21], it is obvious that the tapered feed line gives better performance in terms of S 11 . It is observed from the Fig.…”

“…To improve the impedance bandwidth of these antennas, different geometries of stubs, slits or slots in the feed line, ground plane, and radiating patch have been introduced significantly enhances the antenna performance [7]. In [8], a CPW-fed antenna with two stacked T-shaped strips inside the square radiating ring is presented which covers the lower band of future 5G communications . In [9], by slightly extending the two ground planes and improving the impedance matching a wideband CPW-fed antenna is designed.…”
