PurposeGreen public procurement (GPP) may be a viable solution and an innovative policy tool for public managers to address complex environmental issues facing communities globally. Given their substantial purchasing power, local GPP initiatives and success can accelerate a transition toward a more sustainable society through governments' influence over the private sector. The study's central research question is: What are the factors associated with US local governments' engagement with GPP practices?Design/methodology/approachThis research applies the Mohr's (1969) model of motivations, obstacles and resources (MOR) and draws on original, comprehensive and national survey data collected in collaboration with NIGP: The Institute for Public Procurement to explain adoption of GPP as an innovative policy tool. To ensure the robustness of the findings, the data are analysed by running two types of regression – ordinal logistic and negative binomial – using two different operationalizations for the dependent variable, a GPP scale (ordinal) and a GPP scorecard (count).FindingsThe decision surrounding GPP adoption is ultimately driven by organizations’ strategic visions, organizations’ familiarity with the GPP concept and practices, and mandates from the federal government through funding mechanisms.Originality/valueThis study offers guidance to both academic researchers and policymakers in public management and public budgeting and finance on strategies and policy options to expand GPP adoption and utilization.

As cities are developed in line with sustainable development, space needs to be efficiently utilized. A balance must be achieved between investment sites and naturally active areas in order to shape the urban environment. In the public city, green spaces represent an indisputable element and are essential. An urban greenery plan is an essential component of a city's economic development. In recent years, spatial planning has been gaining government attention, particularly green development. Responsible management of these spaces is essential. However, urban foliage management appears to be a challenge for local authorities. In a spatial development plan, new greenery may be created, destroyed green spaces should be renovated, or brownfields must be repurposed. The purpose of this paper is to present a coherent concept for reclaiming the estate in Krakow, focusing especially on landscaping the Riverside Park. The design will create a friendly space that can be used by residents for rest and meetings, as well as enhance aesthetics and quality of life. Parks and community gardens are listed as strategic components for equipping the city with public spaces for meetings and recreation as well as other activities.

Green capabilities, green purchasing, and triple bottom line performance: Leading toward environmental sustainability

Despite the vast literature on green purchasing practices and sustainability, the role of an organization's green capabilities in defining green purchasing practices for triple-bottom-line performance has received limited attention. This research intends to empirically evaluate the impact of green capabilities on green purchasing practices to boost the triple-bottom-line performance of manufacturing organizations. We analyzed 386 manufacturing organizations' responses using the covariance-based structural equation modeling approach. The results indicate a positive correlation between green capabilities and purchasing habits; however, green innovation capabilities did not establish a statistically meaningful correlation. Additionally, green buying strategies have significant favorable associations with the triple bottom line of performance. The results contributed to the advancement of the resource-based-view theory by empirically examining the impact of green capabilities and green purchasing practices in influencing the triple-bottom-line performance of manufacturing firms.
