“…These workers isolated it from only 7 of 3,346 aborted foetus examined in Kentucky and from none of 600 foals delivered dead at full term. Bain (1963) isolated the organism from a foal born dead 40 days prematurely and this appears to be the only report of its isolation from cases of prenatal infection in Australia. We have previously isolated it from a weak foal born prematurely which detenorated rapidly over 24 hours and died showing typical lesions of pyosepticaemia.…”

“…Bakterijske infekcije materice dovode do najvećih gubitaka u konjarstvu, prvenstveno kod priplodnih grla, jer se javlja kod 25-60% jalovih kobila. Među prvima koji su posvetili pažnju istraživanjima bakterijske etiologije u kliničkoj patologiji konja bio je Bain (1963)…”

“…This bacterial species is a common cause of septicaemia in neonatal foals, but is sometimes also found in other types of infections in both foals and adult horses, such as arthritis, bronchitis, pleuritis, pneumonia and peritonitis (BAIN, 1963;BAKER, 1972;GAY and LORDING, 1980;DILL et al, 1982;KOTERBA et al, 1984;BREWER and KOTERBA, 1990;PEREMANS et al 1991;COLLINS et al, 1994). On post mortem examination, lesions caused by these infections are often characteristically fibrinous (BAIN, 1963;GAY and LORDING, 1980). Similarly, fibrinous lesions can also be found in pneumonic pasteurellosis in cattle, associated with Pasteurella haemolytica (REHMTULLA and THOMSON, 1981).…”
