“…As shown in studies of the mechanism of phase formation during self-propagating high-temperature synthesis (SHS) in a combustion wave in metal-metalnitrogen systems (Ti-Ni-N, Ti-Co-N, Ti-Fe-N, and Al-W-N) [1][2][3], the conditions in the reaction zone of combustion waves are favorable for the formation of nonequilibrium phases, such as metal nitrides missing in equilibrium phase diagrams. The formation of such compounds is favored by the following factors: chemical reactions in a combustion wave occur at high temperatures, due to the heat of reactions of Ti and Al with nitrogen; the reactions occur in high-temperature solutions [4]; moreover, metals react with active nitrogen atoms resulting from the decomposition of intermediate nitrides [5], such as tungsten nitrides.…”
