Combining Integrated Informative System and Historical Digital Twin for Maintenance and Preservation of Artistic Assets

Abstract: The protection of artistic and cultural heritage is a major challenge due to its peculiarities and its exposure to significant natural hazards. Several methodologies exist to assess the condition of artistic heritage and to protect it from exceptional actions. Moreover, novel digital technologies offer many solutions able to deliver a digital replica of artifacts of interest, so that a reduction in the uncertainties in the analysis models can be achieved. A rational approach to the preservation and protection … Show more

“…This installation implied the presence of a specific conservation standard which had evolved based on contemporary digital technologies. In fact, the rapid rise in new digital technologies has revolutionized the practice of recording artistic objects [Marra et al 2021]. In the last five years, several tools and applications for conservation have been developed to help the monitoring process [Acke et al 2021;Apollonio et al 2018;Abate et al 2014].…”

“…Regarding digital surveys, the acquisition of three-dimensional data was conducted using laser scanner technology and photogrammetry. The geometric results obtained from these devices constituted an indispensable reference for any further analysis and study of the documented object [Marra et al 2021].…”

“…But, according to the authors that focus on computer simulation, data for a DT do not necessarily have to be collected in real time. 3,[34][35][36][37] For others, recording and generating visualizations of the existing state of a building is enough for a model to be considered a DT. [4][5][6]38 A third group argues that the role of a DT is to monitor, analyze, and influence how the real building functions, by receiving and processing data in real time to make the construction responsive and sentient.…”
