“…there was no heterosis [ 45 ]. Another study, consisting of 120 hybrids, reported that F1 triploid hybrids averaged a 9% higher root yield than F1 diploid hybrids [ 46 ]. However, the lines used in this study were genetically diverse: the 15 male parents originated from different European countries.…”

“…In a study with five sugar beet varieties, results revealed that GCA effects gave higher contribution to the inheritance of RY and sucrose content (Helmerick, Finkner, & Doxtator, ). In the Lasal, Romagosa, Hecke, and Sanz () study, no significant female GCA effects were identified for triploid hybrids, whereas GCA estimates were significant for the same CMS lines in diploid hybrids. Several studies have shown that sucrose concentration is conditioned largely by additive gene effects, whereas RY is controlled by both additive and non‐additive components (Ahmadi & Assad, ; Biancardi, McGrath, Panella, Lewellen, & Stevanato, ; Doney, ; Hecker, ; Helmerick et al, ; MacLachlan, ; Powers, Schmehl, Federer, & Payne, ; Smith, Hecker, Maag, & Rasmuson, ; Stancic, Zivic, Petrovic, & Knezevic, ).…”
