Color profilometry techniques: A review

Abstract: Structured light is widely researched in tridimensional profilometry, due to its capability to acquire surface data from a series of images in a fast and reliable way. Hence a wide range of techniques are being used for such purpose, among which are the use of color to encode patterns. The use of colorcoding provides the ability to obtain additional data from a single image, to achieve faster 3D reconstructions with higher resolution. In this paper, a new classification of color-coded structured light patterns… Show more

“…Since the FPP signal's nature has three variables -or more for distorting harmonics-the phase recovery from a single fringe pattern is an ill-posed problem in the Hadamard sense 5 . In order to overcome this issue, real-time applications need to introduce prior information like spatial phase carriers and/or color encoding as well as using two video projectors 3,[6][7][8][9][10][11][12][13][14] and references therein.…”

“…Because of the spectral response of Bayer filters for both devices: CCD camera and the Digital Light Processor (DLP), it is expected that presents color cross-talk, which is observed in the phase errors. 7 Thence, the sophisticated methods will demand high computational time to mitigate the cross-talk, and so it reduces their applicability on real-time applications. [7][8][9]14,15 The spatial phase carrier approach is also namely Fourier Transform Profilometry (FTP) because it takes advantage of the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) algorithm 10 or Windowed Fourier Transform (WFT) 16,17 , Hilbert transform (HT) 18 , and Deep Learning Techniques (DLT) 19,20 .…”

“…Phase-shifting is more accurate and robust in comparison with a transform-based algorithm and is broadly used to retrieve phase maps in FPP [7]. However, a phase-shifting algorithm usually requires three or more fringe patterns to complete measurements, which limits its measuring efficiency [8]. Accordingly, color phase-shifting profilometry (CPSP) has been proposed to address these issues.…”
