Colonialidade Do Poder E Imperialismo Em Teatro, De Bernardo Carvalho

Abstract

This article aims to make a critical reading of the novel Teatro, by Bernardo Carvalho, in order to observe how were translated, into literary fiction, schemes of coloniality of power and imperialism. The contribution of cultural studies proves to be indispensable to illustrate this reading because it discusses the situation of inferiority that affects post-colonial cultures. Such post-colonialism, however, should not be understood as an afterthought event to a process of colonization, but as a current event that is embodied in different forms of power control that underlie the imperialism and colonialism. For that, we use as theoretical scope the studies of Quijano (2000) and Said (2011) to address, respectively, each of these schemes.
