“…Early studies, primarily examining rRBCs in plasma products, used hemocytometer methods that were usually adequate for the technologies being examined. Limits of detection and linear ranges for these methods were generally not reported by the investigators 5,6 . In the evaluation of a new PLT apheresis device, Fournel and colleagues 4 used a microscopic method with a Neubauer chamber with a theoretical limit of detection of 1 RBC per 12.5 µL.…”

This method for determining rRBCs in blood products is accurate and repeatable with a lower limit of detection adequate to assess currently available blood products. FC should be considered for determining rRBCs in MNC products.

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
