Correction of collapse probability of bridgesThe concept of minimizing life cycle costs uses, among other things, the parameter of probability of failure. In contrast to all other parameters, however, a connection with observed collapse frequencies is denied in the literature. In this paper, factors for the correction of the calculated failure probabilities are presented based on the evaluation of collapse statistics. These factors consider e.g. the building material, the type of static system or the type of bridge. This information is usually available in the databases of the infrastructure managers, so that the procedure can be easily integrated into existing databases and at the same time an individual realistic value can be determined for each bridge.
