University-industry collaboration (UIC) projects are complex undertakings, that can involve multiple parties or stakeholders. Effective management of UICs can mean the difference between success and failure, in terms of technology transfer and research commercialization. This research paper focuses on the micro-level analysis of UICs and in particular the project management practices that can help major UICs deliver benefits and broader societal impact. PM has been evolving toward more hybrid approaches involving both traditional and agile practices. A conceptualization of a hybrid approach is presented based on a literature review. This conceptualization is then used as a starting point for exploratory empirical research. Participant observation, document analysis, and thirty semi-structured interviews were conducted in a large UIC case study to help identify PM practices and check their relevance. Data analysis led to a framework comprising 29 transversal or musthave practices distributed throughout the project lifecycle and 30 contingent or optional practices, divided into traditional, agile and common. This research extends the existing knowledge on UICs by giving a micro-level perspective on managing UIC projects and providing evidence of the adoption of hybrid approaches to assure the overall governance of significant inter-organizational endeavors. The framework provides a roadmap for future major UIC projects. This is a Rapid Evidence Assessment focused on the identification of leadership styles and traits that enable industry partners to optimize their support on collaborative research projects. While there is considerable research on collaboration, there is a gap related to the leadership contributions that industry partners bring to team science projects. Literature searches returned 192 titles and abstracts, which were assessed for applicability. Of these, seven met the criteria for inclusion. These seven articles formed the basis for snowballing, which contributed to the addition of 19 articles. The 26 papers provided robust research design to be applicable for industry leaders who are supporting government-university-industry partnership projects. Evidence highlighted leadership style and traits that could be applied by industry. The servant leadership style and the capacity to inspire trust were highlighted by the selected research. Operating as a servant leader, an industry leader participating in a team science project has a greater potential to meet research goals and achieve innovative solutions through teamwork. Findings indicate that the facilitation skills common among industry leaders are essential to support a university-industry-government partnership project. Industry partners are well suited to support collaboration while avoiding competitive practices that might otherwise complicate the achievement of project objectives.

An article devoted to the main aspects of the cooperation between universities and business. The purpose of the article is to substantiate the tools of cooperation of domestic universities and business structures and to develop a model of cooperation between them on the terms of cooperation and collaboration. The main barriers to the cooperation of universities and business structures have been identified. A comparison of the relationship between universities and business structures in Ukraine and abroad. The volume of scientific works performed by scientific organizations in Ukraine and the total volume of expenditures for research and scientific and technical developments in 2018 by funding sources are analyzed. In order to determine further areas of development of partnership between businesses and universities, a SWOT analysis was conducted. This method revealed the following strengths in the interaction between the university and business: the readiness of universities to interact; students' desire to take part in joint projects; a high competitive level of higher education and enterprises; a high degree of achievement of the tasks in the system relationships; a high degree of fulfillment of the partner's obligations. Weaknesses of such cooperation were also revealed: high level of bureaucracy in universities; different models of communication in universities and enterprises; different motivation in universities and companies’ activities; inconsistency of curricula with modern business conditions; insufficient financial resources for interaction with universities or unwillingness to spend them on such interaction, etc. On the basis of the conducted research, the model of cooperation of university and business is offered. This model is based on a system of complementary stages: attracting companies to jointly develop curricula, which will take into account the requirements of employers for graduates. This guarantee graduates successful employment in the future; tracking by universities of new technologies and new trends in relevant areas of interest to employers; increasing the mobility of scientists to gain useful experience; development of a dialogue between universities and employers to increase mutual trust, improve mutual understanding when formulating goals, etc
